| Mission | Global Harmony through Art (GHtA) encourages and promotes artists from all countries and cultures to work, travel and create peace together. |
| The Challenge | We are in a period of deep conflict and tension between cultures. We are faced with global issues that cannot be solved by one nation or one culture. Our ability to work together and accept our diversity and to get along is crucial to our survival. |
| The Opportunity | We have developed technologies that bring us closer to cultures much different then our own. The diverse wisdom each culture brings provides us with a piece of the needed resources to manage many of our current challenges. Each of us can play an important role in supporting our ability to live more peacefully and sustainably together. |
| What We Can Do Together | We are offering a unique opportunity to bring US and Chinese students from urban high schools together to learn about rural Chinese life, and to share computer technology with students living in the Chinese countryside. This cross cultural peer to peer teaching and learning will foster understanding, build a foundation for future collaboration, and develop creative problem solving skills. |

Background |
In the past twenty years, China´s economy has grown at an unprecedented rate. Yet China still has over 90 million people who live on $1 a day. Most children in the poorest areas do not have a chance to finish their high school education. In contrast, most urban children in both the US and China have the opportunity to their finish high school education. Often these students have not experienced the hardships faced by their rural peers. One of our challenges is to educate all young people, and provide opportunities for them to learn from each other and grow together. |
Project Plan |
We are sending 20 - 30 US high school students (11-12th grade) to China for three weeks each summer beginning in 2008, and are in the process of taking applications from US high schools that are interested in participating in this partnership. We have already secured the participation of several top high schools in China. Participating students will first meet in a major city. Then they will spend approximately two weeks traveling to different cities around the country. Students will be staying in hotels during their travels. During the final week the students will go to the countryside to train middle and high school students on new computers provided by the US company AMD. The visiting students will learn about the local customs and culture, and will be hosted by local families. Upon return to their home communities, students will to share their experiences and insights with others in venues including international clubs, civic organizations, and their home school districts. |
